By confiscating the property of the Church, the French Revolution, together with the Napoleonic Code, brought about a significant increase in the number of vintner-estate owners in Burgundy.
Such parcellisation makes it difficult for a vinter single-handedly to reach the highest degree of perfection in the four essential operations required to obtain the best quality wines and sell under optimum conditions: selecting the best grapes, succeeding at the best wine-making, conducting the best aging process and carrying out the best marketing. A number of prestigious Burgundy domains therefore decided to join forces with Cottin Frères to develop a close partnership. The Great Domain Family has forty members among them.
More recently, we have entered into a special agreement with seven estates to intensity our efforts in joint research in the field of vine-growing and wine-making.

This Meursault wine-growing estate was already in existence before 1789. It was owned by the Baron de Lostende, and later by the Manuel family, which contributed to making it one of the finest domains in Burgundy. Its Clos de la Baronne Meursault and its premiers crus Meursault Bouches Chères and Poruzots are renowned the world over. COTTIN FRERES bought the 6-hectare domain from the Manuel family in 1998 and in 1999, undertook a series of major investments, while taking care to respect the quality tradition to which it owes its reputation.
